Re: New question

LOL good answer on the head hurts

We were talking about this, in reference to the Pound/Clintwood JV game.

A coach has standing privledges, and the box. If they sit, they have to be in the box, they cant sit 6 miles down the bleachers, get mad and walk up to the box to complain and then back.

A coach gets technical which means they lose their standing privledges and use of the coaching box so at that point, should it really have mattered where the coach went and sat? I mean if Pounds JV coach had wanted to, couldnt he have went and sat in the tenth row eating a hot dog, as long as he didnt stand up or anything.

I realize that doing something big like that would be showing an official up, but by the same token, should they really care where he went and sat? As long as he sat and didnt stand up? That's where I was saying, at least from the way it sounds, that the official provoked the additional T's.

Not just trying to down officials, although I'm sure some of you think I am

Honestly I hope that this board will be a way for officials to see mistakes they made (if they make them *lol*) and for fans to find out that they were wrong about the way they interpet a rule
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

Re: New question

There is more to this than what you all are mentioning. The coach was whacked the second time because he wasnt seated on the bench. He was kneeling on the floor. The coaching box rule says he has to be seated on the bench. It doesnt matter if he is in the box. He just has to remain seated during live ball play as long as he is on the bench. Kneeling is not covered and does not apply or replace sitting. Virginia has adopted the privilage that allows coaches to stand in the box. Some states go by the NFHS rule that states that a coach does not have the privilage to stand and coach. Maybe Virginia should take the privilage of standing away from coaches and then stuff like this would not happen.

Re: New question

Right again, Rock! Im just going on what is being said in the officals back channels. From what I gather, what was written on the report says that the coach was kneeling. So yes, game film would be nice and Im sure that the VHSL will want the tape. If the tape backs up what the offical wrote on the report. Pound High School and the police will be in big trouble.

Re: New question

I Have to question what the police were doing if they refused to preform there duty......The more I hear about the situation the bigger the mess seems to be.

Could the VHSL allow the AOA to refuse to officate another game at Pound?

Re: New question

I dont really have an answer about what the VHSL will or could do. I do know that some police officers are a joke. I cant remember which school it was but I was officating a game and standing on the baseline and the officer was behind me screaming at me to call it both ways. I assumed he had a kid playing. Best all around protection I have seen so far is the Dickenson County Deputies at Clintwood.

Curious Archer, if the tape backs up that the coach was in fact seated, what would be the result? Then instead of Pound or the police being in trouble, shouldn't the referee be in a bit of trouble?

Again I wasn't there, just trying to look at the other side If you are right, then yes I would think that the resource officer or whatever should be in a bit of trouble for not doing their job.

Re: New question

According to an official I've talked with, there is no rule about having to sit in the box after a T. You just have to remain seated.

Hope that helps Rocketeer!

Re: New question

7, you are correct. He doesnt have to be seated in the box. He has to be seated, not kneeling.
Rock,
If an offical does do something wrong, yes things do happen. You will get less games, no district or region games. Or as our By Laws state, suspended or dismissed. I have yet to see that happen.
